During my 12 year career at Citrix and VMware I have designed hundreds of icons in many different styles, fitting into separate libraries. Below are some examples of concepts and implemented designs.
I worked with the CR team to conceptualize and create a unique set of icons for the iPhone interface. These were the final icons used.
Here are a few sets of icon concepts I designed to help us determine a visual style that would fit well within the new look and feel of the VMware Clarity branding.
All my designs start on paper. I find the process faster and the ideas flow naturally. From my favorite concepts I begin working on the digital versions where I can refine the metaphors to later be reviewed with the team.
Following suit with the minimalist color palette in the Clarity branding guidelines, it was now necessary to create an updated icon library. The palate was limited to 3 shades of grey/blue and reserving colors for any badging or alerts.
Here is the complete library of 16x16 SVG icons I created which was implemented into the vSphere Web Client.
Next are a few iterations for the "Homepage" style icons. This iterative process included creating 1-3 new sets of icon styles every few days, reviewing with the team, taking feedback and refining or redesigning them until we reached the desired look and feel that we agreed best suited the UI.
